If you discover the archipelago on the plane, you will be confronted with a large number of destinations: areas with thoroughly developed tourism such as the south of Gran Canaria or Tenerife, mountainous regions virtually untouched, further out, there are more authentic and preserved islands, like Palma, Hierro or Gomera.

The landscape of the islands span from soft green valleys to vast arid deserts, The Teide volcano on Tenerife is the highest mountain in the archipelago (and Spain) where natural rock formations have created a lunar landscape.

The archipelago consist of three groups of islands:
- " African " : the Saharan desert is not very far from the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, which explains their imposing sand dunes and superb beaches; in Lanzarote, you should not miss the volcano of Timanfaya, the most unique vineyards in the world in 'La Geria', or remarkable works of art created by the architect César Manrique, in particular the "Garden of Cactus" and the pretty basins of the "Jameas del Agua "

- Central islands, these are the most devoted to tourism, Gran Canaria and Tenerife; however you do not have to go far, even in these two islands, to discover withdrawn landscapes, where you will feel far away from it all, with beautiful authentic villages.

- Three external islands, Palma, green whose center is occupied by the "Caldeira de Taburiente" an immense volcanic crater with a forest of pines; Hierro, with its arid slate-like landscape awesome cliffs and volcanic formations, to the spectacular tortured juniper "sabines" trees; and finally Gomera, which until recently did not have an airport, with its small sleepy Spanish town, its terraced fields, and the forest of "laurisilva" which gives us an idea of what the shores of the Mediterranean resembled before man deforested them.
