Bora-Bora
Antoine's view
It's difficult to find an island with a more famous name, and that fires better the imagination, Bora Bora. These two repeated syllables bear in themselves all the magic of the most beautiful islands in Polynesia, those steep mountains whose slopes are covered with tropical vegetation, these rings of coral reefs planted with low islets, the "motu", and that surround the extraordinary turquoise blue lagoon.
It was in Bora Bora that I saw for the first time the underside of the white birds' wings getting a turquoise reflection!
Bora Bora is a tourist destination as famous as Bali or Mauritius. and yet, it's quite a surprise to discover in this celebrated island a peaceful and gentle life, as quiet as the life of any small French provincial town : do not go to Bora Bora for its nocturnal life !
Here, outside the ?Heiva? celebrations (that have replaced the 14th of July fête, and that still last close to one month ), as early as nine PM, the whole island is asleep.
Traffic remains very moderate on the only road, that circles the island. About forty years ago, famous French explorer Paul-Emile Victor fell in love with an islet on the reef that surrounds Bora Bora, the small ?motu Tane?, the island of Man?.
