September 2024
Hello everyone,
Summer memories
Pof! The two months of summer passed like a gentle breeze over the Auvergne mountains. We've had grey days, hot days, plants , and flowers wondering what the hell they were doing there, and then they decided to bloom and the great discovery of this summer is the zucchini flower fritters, or rather the zucchini flower tempura that accompanies our little gin and tonic almost every evening.
We've been delighted to welcome a few visitors, sailors, old friends, Francette's or my own children, not forgetting our friend French actor Thierry Lhermitte, who rides horses at a stud farm not far from where we live. For those who didn't already know them, we introduced them to two of the most beautiful natural sites in the Puy de Dôme, the Gour de Tazenat and the Queuille meander.Photo of Gour de Tazenat C Francis Cormon
A fan in Tahiti sent me a nice photo taken in Rio de Janeiro in 1969 and published just at the turn of the century (and millennium) ... in the Dauphiné Libéré daily, presenting me as a standard-bearer of those ?happy years? (which have been the subject of so many fine television programs).
Our previous letter was devoted to the death of the wonderful singer Françoise Hardy; thanks to all those who tried to find the photo of her that had moved me so much in 1967... I'd got the wrong magazine, it had appeared in Mademoiselle Age Tendre, thanks to Jacques Briand and Bassarab who both found it!
My Practical Guide to Setting Sail has just been suggested to his subscribers by a friendly youtuber/navigator on his Coraille en voyage page ; he interviewed me at one of the last Paris Boat Shows, and his productions are always interesting to follow. I also follow Black Lion, quite often, and among the best-known sailors on the Internet, the Australian couple who have just embarked with their two sons on their third La Vagabonde, a bright orange trimaran; the American couple who have recently acquired a turquoise blue catamaran, Curiosity 2 ; and the Swedish/American couple who are in the process of building Delos 2, a catamaran, very close to the Australian city of Brisbane, where my son lives, and where Francette and I love to stop off.
In a fortnight' time, I'll be the guest of my -a lmost -twin Jacques Pessis on Sud Radio and of Vincent Perrot on RTL radio. I'll also be in Nice on 27 September for a book signing at the Centre d'Arts et de Culture l'Artistique. Early October will see the Grand Pavois in La Rochelle, where I'll be very present... I'll tell you all about it in due course.
I wish you a few more beautiful days for September.
