June 2024
Hello everyone,
Setting Sail
The big news of the month, I already told you about at the beginning of May, is of course, the publication of the 4th edition (since 1983) of my Practical Guide to Setting Sail. It was born from a conversation with the great sailor and writer Bernard Moitessier; we noted together that at the time there was no book covering all the disciplines to be mastered (at least in part) to go on a long journey on a sailboat around the world: navigation, but also mechanics, electricity, electronics, food, health, this book had to be written, and I did it two or three years later and published it by Jacques Arthaud, the father of late sailing champion Florence.
This year it is Gallimard (which has to date published about thirty photo albums produced by yours truly - with the precious help of Francette) who?s launching the new edition.
I had fun sending a little breath of trade wind across the cover of this book - a breathtaking portrait taken by the fantastic Titouan Lamazou (Thank you Titouan!) - gently waving branches and palm fronds (and my hair!), gently mmoving the steering wheel and propelling a small sailboat to the horizon.
In Auvergne, summer is still slow to appear, the sun is fading, but nature loves the rain: I have rarely seen the area aussi vert, so green, so flowery, magnificent. The strawberries are ahead of schedule (perfect fruits for Pavlova), and the raised bed where we planted all kinds of vegetables as soon as the "ice season" is over, certainly promises us good harvests.
After a stint on C A Vous this month, I am present on Télématin on the 31st, and a few other shows for Europe 1 have been recorded for the summer.
I wish you an excellent month of June!
