October 2017
Hello everyone,
My short career in the movies ...
You can't miss it: Fakarava is really full of charm, and it's becoming known. Tourists come here in reasonable numbers, mostly for diving, and small guest houses (Relais Marama, Havaiki Lodge) and small restaurants ( La Paillote, "crepes" - French for pancakes - their specialty, Rotoava grill, great "poisson cru" - raw fish in coconut milk) add to the local pleasures; I had a tough time leaving the place to get closer to the spot where I'm planning to leave the boat to fly back to Paris in two weeks.
After a full month of continuously fine weather on the Tuamotu archipelago, a cold front has invaded Polynesia; I have come to seek shelter from the excessive SE wind, called Maraamu, in our favourite anchoring spot, under a grey sky quite different from what I filmed ten days ago thanks to the little drone
while I'm waiting for the sun to return, I'm writing all sorts of things, and for this monthly letter, a few memories :
Polynesia's main TV station has recently broadcast ashort cameo I was asked to perform in a series adapted from the "Al Dorsey" detective stories penned by French writer Patrice Guirao, also the author of many songs, including those featured in huge musicals performed in Paris. In the "archive" section of this website, you can find this short excerpt albeit in French .
In fact it is close to all I ever performed for the big screen during my "career" in the media, apart from acting in a documentary y director Jacques Baratier (in 1966 - he filmed me sweeping the scene of the Olympia Music Hall ) Later I appeared briefly (stealing the just married wife of one of the "Charlots" (aka "Crazy boys"); other projects never came to fruition. Other didn't attract me enough.
So my cinematographic career will remain very brief; although I did act for quite a few TV ads and although our documentary travel features have been for 25 years published by Warner Brothers, and although when we are on tour for "Connaissance du Monde", they are shown in big cinemas, where they are displayed in the same size and on the same screens where are shown Harry Potter or the Lord of the Rings, which never misses to impress me !
I wish you a great October
Antoine.
