December 2016
Hello everyone,
Water has risen more than ten steps ... in Maine and Loire !
At mid-stage in our tour of lectures for Connaissance du Monde, (Knowledge of the Workd) we are for a week a few kilometers away from Angers, on the banks of the river Sarthe, in a pretty little cottage ; I told you that we now favor Bed and Breakfasts (in québécois, "duvet and coffee") to anonymous hotels ; which leads us to friendly encounters, and various accommodations and facilities (such as a superb bright red piano in Rilleux-la-Pape). Here, the bells of the church of Ecouflant, very close by, constitute the only noise that reaches us in our warm little apartment.
Here are a few pictures of our tour, monuments, restaurants, landscapes; Do not miss, on our forum, the work of our chief geographer-encyclopedist, Jplonk, who finds for each of our stops impressive images and information about regional specialties as varied as a Fouga (a legendary fighter aircraft) exhibited at the museum of Angers-Macé, the megalomaniac Chateau d'Angers, the ancestral tapestries and rillettes of Sarthe, or the stained glass masterworks of the Cathedral of Bourges, financed by nobility in exchange for "indulgences of butter".
A few pleasant radio or FV interviews, also, in various regional stations of France Bleu, Le Mans, for example, with Polynesian or Antillean chefs: one often talks about exotic cooking.
Two more dozen conferences, from Angers to Chatellerault, then to Isere and Lyon, and we will return to Paris then the Puy de Dome before a future re-departure. For your Christmas gifts, think of the (nice!) set bringing together our 4 most recent films about Polynesia, the Caribbean and Islands of the Indian Ocean, or our new book about Polynesia.
The water has risen more than ten steps on the banks of the Sarthe, we could use an inflatable boat to reach the location of our lectures in Angers !
I wish you a decent December.
Antoine
