June 2022
Hello everyone,
Here comes Winter !
Yes, in Australia, except in the tropical parts of the country, the (unofficial) start of winter is the first of June. And we're even a little ahead of the call this year: as I write these lines, in Melbourne, where I've come to take a plane back to France, the night-time temperature is down to 3 degrees this week, and a cold front swept across the waters of Lake Macquarie yesterday; for my last night of this two-month stay on board Banana Split, a torrential and icy rain accompanied by gusts of wind that made the boats waltz around the marina confirmed to me that it was better to go and find summer in the Auvergne!!
These two months, to sum it up, have been laborious, busy ticking off line after line of the to do list; the help of Serge and Claudie, of whom I spoke to you in my previous letter, has been completed by that of Patrice (also promoted for a month to head chef on Banana Split); and the result is visible, despite more than two years of sporadic maintenance, the boat is now superb, repainted hull and deck, sails cleaned, acrylics and blinds cleaned, dozens of details solved outside and inside
I'll let you admire the four cabins, two double and two single, the colors of the kitchen and the sofas in the saloon: as someone famous said, "Color before all else".
.
You can also admire the boat's appearance under sail off Murrays Beach during our various outings to get the boat back on the road; the drone images are from Morgan, Serge and Claudie's son.
Once again, I will be brief, as it was a long day (the Virgin Australia plane was 4 hours late). I'll let the pictures speak for me.
Happy June to all; on the 4th, I'll be 78 years old!
Antoine
