Hello everyone,
July has taken us away from the sea : Banana Split well moored on the Brisbane River, we boarded a 4WD topped with a "roof tent" to discover these five wonders of Western Australia :
You can also follow our journey in this slideshow
1 The Bungles Bungles : halfway between Darwin and Broome, leaving the highway to take the track leading to Purnululu National Park (a cute name), one reaches one of the most amazing mountain ranges in Australia, large domes strangely striated with regular red and black horizontal stripes; to me they are as spectacular as celebrated Uluru (or Ayers Rock) and I have often thought about the most beautiful landscapes of the American parks of Utah and Colorado.
2 Broome : its endless beach, where camels parade, borders a quiet little town where time has a different value than elsewhere; the memory of pearl luggers, that used to fish for pearls and mother of pearl, still lives in the town's main street; on the road to Cap Léveque, whose beach is even more spectacular, a small church is decorated with mother of pearl, like those of the Gambier islands, in Polynesia.
3 Karijini National Park boasts a mountain range cut with deep "gorges" that can be comfortably seen from above, or in which one can leisurely hike along the streams that meander at the foot of rocks with amazing shapes...
4 Ningaloo Reef attracts divers who come to see various sea creatures. From Coral Bay to Exmouth, we have traveled a beautiful road , currently interrupted at Yandie Creek by a recent cyclone.
