August 2013
Hello everyone,
At the heart of the summer holidays, I hope you read this short message on your tablet, or in the Internet cafe of the place where you are on vacation. For us, as in France, but for other reasons, the month of July was very windy, and we divided the month between our favorite deserted atoll (our ?anchorage number one" gives us the best protection from the strong South-East wind of the Pacific, the Maraamu, preceded by some spectacular skies) and the lagoon of Fakarava, where we returen from time to time to stock up and enjoy the beauty of every angle of the atoll.
We also have the pleasure to meet there sailors we have met long ago, such as Oleg: his boat and mine were anchored close together in the bay of Rio de Janeiro in 1975 ... and he used to leave his boat on board a small boat rowing boat that he moored on the beach, and he went barefoot to give his classes of Atomic Physics at the University...
Since then, he has built a larger sailboat inspired by my first boay, a Damien 2. He lives on the banks of a River in Uruguay, and takes each year a research cruise to the Antarctic islands.
Or Laurent Bourgnon, a famous French sailing champion, who has left the fast catamarans catamaran for an impressive motor cat on which he travels the Pacific, financing his trip by a few charter cruises.
Or even this tiny and picturesque sailboat, a Scottish fishing boat dating from 1904 and that takes a happy little family around the world.
I wish you an admirable month of August and see you in september!
Antoine
