September 2010
Hello everyone,
Since our last letter, two months have passed by as if they were a minute. Two months we have been lucky enough to divide between three of our favorite atolls in the Central Tuamotu Islands : Amanu, first of all, : only the islet close to its entrance is inhabited, by about 140 people, which leaves us with dozens of totally deserted islets in the atoll's outer rim; then Makemo, where we can both stock up in the small supermarket built by Jean-Claude and Nadia (who once a week import from Tahiti fruit and vegetables, a rare occurrence in the Tuamotus), but where we also can access another small anchorage we like very much, the one that's surrounded by lively coral reefs shaped like huge birthday cakes
And finally, we have returned to the anchorage we only refer to as "Anchorage number one"; and, by chance, it had gotten even better: sea currents carve and build beaches, this year they have built a magnificent one, 400 m long, bordered with crystal clear water, and over flown by the choreography of pairs of paradise terns.
The young booby that is born each year on top of a kahaia tree has welcomed us with its wide open eyes, the hermit crabs have paraded to let us admire their shell of the year; for our part, we have donned our preferred attire in places like this, with a slight exception : as I had found on the island thin vines and one of the strange vegetal sheets that grow at the base of coco palms, and that look like rough canvas, I made the perfect attire for an Australian Aborigene going "Walkabout" ; and by chance we had just seen "Australia" at the atoll's cinema..
That is with the HD projector we have on board, with a small collection of chosen Blu-Rays : this year, Les Poupées Russes, Forrest Gump, The Truman Show, Avatar, La Grande Vadrouille, Monty Python, and, by Marcel Pagnol, "La Gloire de Mon Père" and "Le Chateau de ma Mère" which we enjoyed watching with two friends from Provence who have exactly the same accent as Pagnol, the crew of the sailboat Pitcairn, the only visit we've had in more than two months; Bernard, who's great at fishing, provided us with fish and even lobster !
And I almost forgot to tell you about another meeting, last month, as we had stopped over in Hao, with my friend Bubu and the young booby he has adopted and tamed.. it was great to see the bird arriving, very proud on bubu's scooter.
But you musn't believe that we only enjoy the islands' beauty: you know Fancette and I, we dedicate a good part of the day to working on projects that fascinate us, such as IPad apps : "Tuamotu" is already online, and we'll soon add Australia, Madagascar and Cambodia, which leads us to soon offer on "Video on demand" all our catalog, in a format that can be read by Ipads but also by all multimedia disks. ; It's a lot of work, but when we take a break, the beauty of the surroundings of our floating graphic studio is breathtaking.
We'll return to France around september 15, with short stops in Sydney, Reunion Island, Mauritius and Rodrigues for additional shots; then I'll start on a two months tour of talks with "Connaissance du Monde". I wish I could do these tours in your country too !
Greetings
Antoine
