July 2018
Hello everyone,
Three days in winter...
I spoke to you last month about my "airport days" ...
The month of June, in this field, has been pretty hectic, since we took 15 flights in just three weeks, from airports not always comfortable, like the one at Port-au-Prince, where it was absolutely impossible to understand a word that the hostess speaking in the loudspeakers was speeding, in English though.
So we have :
- Paid a visit to Johnny ( Hallyday) at Lorient's Cemetery, St Barth, and to Bob Marley at his home in Kingston, Jamaica
- In Jamaica, sailed on a bamboo raft on the Rio Grande, a practice inaugurated by Errol Flynn
- In Curacao, still found colorful houses in Punda district, Wilhemstad
- And in Haiti, climbed on horseback to the top of Laferrière peak, to find the Citadel built for King Christophe, who compared himself to Napoleon.
All of this will of course be found in the book "Escales aux Caraïbes" to be published in November...
Meanwhile, I return to the boat that waits for me in Fakarava; I send you these words from New Zealand, where I make a brief incursion in winter, as this is the southern hemisphere: frost on windbreakers this morning, and snowfall around Rotorua, despite the heat of the volcanic springs.
On July 3rd, I'll be back aboard Banana Split; Francette will join me a few days later, and we will recover from our efforts and all this agitation in our favourite deserted anchorages, the Tuamotu islands.
I wish you a super summer and see you on September 1st.
Antoine.
